Big Victory for Gun and Drug Rights

On Thursday, the justices of the United States Supreme Court unanimously concluded in deciding the case of United States v. Hemani that the US government violates the Second Amendment of the Constitution in enforcing a prohibition on people owning or possessing guns merely because those individuals also use marijuana. Further, the reasoning of the decision suggests that the court may similarly throw out such denials of respect for the right to own or possess guns in regard to people who use at least some of the other drugs subject to the US government’s drug prohibition.

Lawless Cops

Cops enforce laws. On first impression that may seem a good thing as one considers long in place laws, such as against assault, murder, and theft, that can help protect individuals’ ability to live in peace. In reaching its decision, Turley assesses that “the Colorado Supreme Court steered off the constitutional map” and “put this country on one of the most dangerous paths in its history.”

Ron Paul and the New US Supreme Court Decision Restraining Prosecution of Doctors for Prescribing Pain Medicine

Ron Paul was a strong proponent in the United States House of Representatives of ending the US government’s war on doctors who prescribe pain medication and on their patients who rely on the medication to relieve pain. This war has been a subset of the larger war on drugs and one that is in many ways easier to fight than taking on actual drug-running organizations that use stealth and violence as tools of the trade.
