Luckily for free speech and free press in America, Donald Trump, who is set to be sworn in as president on Monday, seems determined to ensure that the many millions of American TikTok users will be able to continue posting and watching videos at the popular social media platform. Hooray for Trump taking this stand. But, previously, Trump was a free speech and free press villain in regard to TikTok. Indeed, if Trump had stood up for First Amendment rights from the beginning instead of taking action against TikTok, the whole United State government effort to ban the social media platform may have been avoided.

TikTok Bans Glenn Greenwald
On Sunday, I wrote about Glenn Greenwald’s insightful discussion at his System Update news show last week about how American politicians’ threats to ban TikTok are part of the effort to gain greater government control over the social media platform that has already, Greenwald stated, “had to agree more and more” to implement United States government censorship demands.
Here is an update. TikTok has since banned Greenwald’s System Update from its social media platform.
Five years back, technology companies were hitting their stride with cracking down on alternative voices. That crackdown has continued over the ensuing years. Further, evidence has increasingly been revealed that fills out the story of how United States government agents have behind the scenes been pushing the crackdown.
Many United States Congress members have been recently diving with gusto into a hatefest against social media website TikTok. Some of them are even supporting legislation that would ban the website in America and pose additional extreme threats to freedom.
