On Monday, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law a repeal of a substantial tax increase on marijuana sales in the state. By raising the cost of marijuana on the legal market, the tax increase was leading people to opt instead for making purchases on the black market.

On the first day of July already relatively high marijuana taxes in California went up more with the kicking in of a tax increase from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. It had looked like this tax increase would likely be avoided. But, here it is.
California has earned a reputation for high taxes. Yet, this week there is a sign of hope for tax resistance in the state legislature. On Monday, the California Assembly voted unanimously to delay by five years a tax increase that had been set to go into effect on July 1.

The punishment the state medical boards could impose under the legislation includes revoking doctors’ medical licenses.
Here is an update. On Friday, Newsom signed into law this bill directing the prosecution of an attack on free speech, medical freedom, and the pursuit of better health.
During the coronavirus scare, a small dissident group of American doctors stood up against the concerted effort of many politicians, people in the media, “public health” bureaucrats, doctors, and medical organizations to portray the coronavirus “vaccine” shots as “safe and effective” and something everyone should take.
Earlier today, I wrote that it would not be surprising if the California state government adds experimental coronavirus “vaccine” shots to the list of shots the state government mandates that schoolchildren in the state receive. Then, later today, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced in a speech that the state is taking just that step.
On Tuesday, the school board for San Diego Unified School District in San Diego, California, voted unanimously to impose a mandate that students 16 years old and older can participate in in-person classes and extracurricular activities only if the students receive shots of experimental coronavirus vaccines, some of which are not even vaccines under the normal meaning of the term.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, over the last year and a half, has been one of the American governors imposing the most extensive crackdowns on freedom in the name of countering coronavirus. He also famously exhibited extreme hypocrisy in November by flagrantly violating his own California coronavirus-related mandates while taking part in a dinner party at the uber-expensive French Laundry restaurant. Newsom’s attitude seems to be that his rules are for regular people, not for himself and his friends.

Red Flag Laws Are Far from Harmless
When President Donald Trump presented on August 5 a collection of proposals for government actions to counter mass shootings, advancing red flag laws was part of the package. Briefly describing such laws that operate in several states, Trump said, “we must make sure that those judged to pose a grave risk to public safety do not have access to firearms, and that, if they do, those firearms can be taken through rapid due process.” That description — taking guns only from people who “pose a grave risk to public safety” and only after a judgment has been made in accordance with due process — would make red flag laws sound to many people like a rather harmless means to protect the public from extreme harm. However, the truth is very different.
