Keeping DHS Unfunded

In January, I wrote about Democrats in the United States Senate proposing a group of changes in US immigration enforcement. Listing some of the suggested changes, I summed them up as largely the adopting of restraints at the US government level “that have generally helped ensure at the state and local level that police violate people’s rights less frequently and can be more likely held to account in instances when they do.”

TSA’s New Confirm.ID Tax

Back in March of 2014, I wrote about how the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) operates an extortion racket-style scheme via its PreCheck program that gives travelers who pay a fee and jump through a bunch of hoops including submitting to fingerprinting and a background check a chance, though no guarantee, that they can evade some harassment from the TSA itself. In the same vein, starting in February, TSA is planning to roll out a new tax and other demands, termed Confirm.ID, that will be required of individuals who do not have REAL ID compliant identification documentation in order for them to travel from point A or point B.

Joseph Ladapo, the Florida Surgeon General Who Challenges Coronavirus Fearmongering and ‘Unsafe’ Coronavirus Shots

I first wrote about Joseph Ladapo in September of 2021, soon after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Ladapo to be the state’s surgeon general and run the state’s health department. “The new state surgeon general, in his comments at the Tuesday appointment announcement event,” I wrote in a Ron Paul Institute article, “spoke boldly in favor of freedom and against using health fearmongering, including the overstating of dangers from coronavirus, as an excuse to violate individual rights.”

Since then, Ladapo has acted on a number of occasions to advance liberty and health in the face of coronavirus fearmongering, including instances I have related in further articles. Ladapo refused US government shipment to the Florida government of coronavirus “vaccine” shots for babies and children ages four and younger, advised that men ages 19 to 39 not take the shots, and advised parents “Keep sticking with your intuition and keep those COVID jabs away from your kids” when yearly coronavirus shots were added to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s childhood vaccine schedule.

Ron Paul Reflects on His Time in the US House of Representatives

Ron Paul was not the chairman of a full committee and he did not hold a party leadership position during his 23 years in the United States House of Representatives. Neither was Paul focused in the House on expanding the use of government power via legislation. Nonetheless, Paul managed to use his elected office to achieve a very significant objective — helping make people aware of, and educate them about, the importance of protecting liberty and the related imperative of reducing the reach of government.

J.D. Tuccille released a video this week at Reason that, in just three minutes, powerfully communicates the danger from big increases in government power being sought in the wake of conflict on January 6 at the United States Capitol.

President López Obrador of Mexico Says Choose Liberty, not Dictatorship, in Coronavirus Policy

Across the world, politicians are continuing and even expanding coronavirus crackdown measures including the shuttering of businesses, limiting of people’s movement, and requiring of mask wearing.

It is refreshing to see some national political leaders who have followed another course, rejecting using coronavirus as a reason for imposing a multitude of harsh restrictions on people. Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador went a step further on Wednesday, calling out other national leaders for “acting like dictators” in imposing coronavirus policies that suppress liberty.
