Check out the United States Libertarian Party’s website for its national convention later this month at which a major focus will be the choosing of the party’s presidential nominee. You see something very peculiar. Up top at the home page is a picture of a portion of presumptive Republican Party presidential nominee Donald Trump’s face. Underneath that is text reading “President Trump to Address Convention.”
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is not a libertarian. Neither has he claimed to be one.
Nevertheless, in a Saturday interview with host Michael Smerconish at CNN, Kennedy said his campaign, which has “a very good relationship with the Libertarian Party,” is “looking at” the possibility of him seeking the party’s presidential nomination.
The United States Libertarian Party posted today at Twitter a celebratory post regarding Javier Milei who is one of the two candidates for the presidency of Argentina in a runoff election taking place today. First, the tweet referred to Milei as the “most successful Libertarian political candidate of this generation” who “has a chance to shock the world today.” Then, it wished him “Good luck” and expressed the desire that he “Set an example for what could be in America.”
Hmm. Is this heavy praise merited?
Last week, I wrote about how the United States Libertarian Party’s new leadership put in place by delegates at the party’s May of 2022 national convention has through the November of 2024 general election to demonstrate its success through election results. It seems that the party’s chairman has a different take.
Reasonable people will look at Libertarian Party candidates’ election results — votes largely, but also the nature of attention obtained — through the November 2024 general election to judge if the new leadership of the national Libertarian Party has succeeded or failed.
The 2024 United States presidential race would become much more interesting if Children’s Health Defense Founder and Chairman Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who has tenaciously challenged the tyranny and propaganda pursued in the name of countering coronavirus, runs for president with legal scholar and former New Jersey Judge Andrew Napolitano as his running mate on a third-party ticket. That is the presidential ticket possibility suggested by political commentator and trends forecaster Gerald Celente in a Friday interview with host David Knight at the David Knight Show.
In the November election, Republican and Democratic candidates for New York governor will face no opposition on the ballot from any third party candidates. The reason is not that nobody desires to run as a third party candidate. Instead, third party candidates were unable to meet the state government’s newly-imposed increased number of signatures required on ballot access petitions.
What is the libertarian approach to coronavirus? Like the libertarian approach to many things, the libertarian approach to coronavirus can be summed up in the French phrase laissez-faire.
Donald Rainwater ran this year an unusually popular governor campaign for a Libertarian Party candidate. As I wrote in early October, the popularity of Rainwater’s campaign appeared to arise largely because of his standing out as the candidate in the race for Indiana governor who presented clear and strong opposition to the reelection-seeking Republican governor’s tyrannical coronavirus mandates, while the Democratic contender argued the governor’s mandates were not severe enough.
Indiana’s Republican Governor Eric J. Holcomb has lost support from many individuals who months back would be counted as within his solid base of support for his reelection in the upcoming November election. Much of the reason for this loss of support appears to arise from two facts. First, Holcomb imposed, beginning in March, devastating coronavirus crackdown mandates in the state and added in July a mask mandate that is still in force. Second, Holcomb faces a Libertarian Party opponent in the upcoming November election who clearly and strongly opposes these mandates.
