Former Republican House of Representatives Member John J. Duncan, Jr., in a Thursday editorial published at the Miami Herald, urged current Republican members of the House to oppose impending war against Venezuela just as he and five other Republican members voted in 2002 against the Iraq War before it began.

Trump’s Iran War and Bush’s Iraq War

Many people have been comparing President Donald Trump’s ongoing push for war on Iran to a similar course taken by President George W. Bush in regard to Iraq a little over twenty years ago. And there are definitely similarities including allegations against the targeted country related to weapons of mass destruction and the portraying of the targeted country’s political leadership as a major threat to Israel and even America.

US Military to Leave Iraq

In August, the news arrived that United States military forces and assets had been removed from Niger. Writing about this development, I opined on August 6 that “the US would be well served to start initiating the withdrawal of its military from many additional countries.” A month later, it looks like an agreement is in place for such a withdrawal from another country — Iraq.

Now Extinct: Anti-War Democrats in the House of Representatives

There was a time when some Democrats in the United States House of Representatives would speak out against and vote against US wars. Sadly, the Tuesday US House of Representatives vote on a bill (HR 7691) to spend over 40 billion dollars in pursuance of the US war on Russia demonstrates that anti-war Democrats are now extinct in the House.

Wolfowitz, who was then deputy secretary of defense, assured Congress members that Iraq, through its oil revenue, could pay for its own reconstruction.

Ron Paul: It is Best for Iraq to Tell the US to ‘Get Out’

In a Friday interview with host Rick Sanchez at RT regarding the United States government’s assassination of Iran General Qassim Suleimani at the Baghdad International Airport in Iraq, peace advocate and former presidential candidate Ron Paul declared that “the best thing that could happen in the immediate future” is for Iraq to tell the US government to “get out.” Paul, in the interview, also counters the argument that the US had to kill Suleimani “to save American lives,” stating that he feels “less safe” after the assassination.

Shutter the US Embassy in Iraq

This week, amid protests by people upset with United States intervention in Iraq, individuals forced their way into and damaged the US embassy compound in Baghdad. In response, US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper declared on Tuesday that 750 additional US troops would be deployed immediately to the Middle East, and it was reported that anonymous US officials said thousands more could be sent there soon.

Here is another option to consider: End US intervention and sanctions, along with the threat of both, that stir up resentment toward the US in Iraq and elsewhere. Announcing the relocating and major downsizing of the huge US embassy in Iraq would help show the US is serious about following through.
