One Down, Two to Go. The US Has Invaded Venezuela to ‘Fight Drugs.’ Are Colombia and Mexico Next?

On Saturday, United States President Donald Trump held a press conference to boast about his sending the US military hours earlier to bring destruction in Venezuela and drag off the leader of the nation’s government to America for incarceration and prosecution. It was all done in the name of fighting the war on drugs, though few people give much credit to the Trump administration’s repeated assertion that Venezuela President Nicolás Madura was a drug kingpin responsible for a major share of fentanyl or cocaine shipments into America.

Maybe the Reason the Trump Administration Wants to Deport Mahmoud Khalil is because There Is No Good Reason to Deport Him

The Donald Trump administration is offering no good reason to deport Mahmoud Khalil, who was involved in protests at Columbia University in New York City related to the Israel government and to United States government support for that government. He is not charged with a crime of violence or fraud. He is just singled out for advancing communication that challenged US foreign policy — exercising rights listed in the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

Faulty Drug Field Tests Can Both Lead to Incarceration and Make Incarceration Worse

In January of 2019, I wrote about how drug field tests that produce many false positive results are used as a basis for arresting and jailing people for drug crimes and have even been used as leverage to induce many people to plead guilty. But, that is not the entire problem with the tests. In addition to leading to people ending up in jails and prisons, false positive results of the faulty drug field tests are used in jails and prisons as a justification for enhancing restrictions on inmates.
