House of Representatives OKs the US Going to War against Iran

The days of congressional declarations of war are long gone, not passed for any of the many United States wars since World War II. In recent decades, Congress has passed authorizations for use of military force (AUMFs) to hand over to the executive branch discretion to choose to go to war against a certain county or to achieve a certain objective. AUMFs provide Congress members distance from the ensuing wars so they can duck responsibility or claim credit after reviewing measured public opinion.

Did the AUMF system reach a new low this week with the House of Representatives approving a resolution apparently authorizing the executive branch to go to war against Iran?

Congress Worked on a Two Billion Dollars Aid Bill for Israel. The Israel Government Says, ‘Nah, Make it Ten Billion.’

Over the last year and a half, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky kept himself busy repeatedly demanding more money, supplies, and weapons from the United States and other governments to pay for Ukraine’s war against Russia. No matter how much was given, he never accepted it as enough. More, more, more aid, he constantly demanded.

It looks like the Israel government is starting off in its new war on the same course of aid demands as the Ukraine government has pursued.

The Second Republican Members’ House Speaker Race This Week, Like the First, was between Two Over the Top Supporters of Aiding the Israel Government in Its War

Déjà vu in the United States House of Representatives. For the second time this week two Republican House members were running against each other to become House speaker, both of whom were over the top in their support for the expansive aiding of the Israel government in its war arising out of last Saturday’s Hamas attack.

Steve Scalise, who Won the Republican House Members’ Speaker Vote is a Major Israel Booster Determined to Help It in Its New War. So is Jim Jordan, who Scalise Defeated.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) narrowly defeated Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) in a Wednesday secret ballot vote among Republican members of the House of Representatives regarding which man should become House speaker. Next up is a speaker vote by the full House membership.

One thing was never in question in the race between Scalise and Jordan. Either of them as the new speaker would be over the top in his support of the Israel government and of helping it in its new war arising out of the Saturday Hamas attack.

Donald Trump Sings in the Stand with Israel Chorus

On Saturday, Donald Trump stood out among Republican presidential candidates when he offered an initial statement that was relatively noninterventionist in reaction to the Hamas attack that occurred that day. But, later on Saturday, Trump, speaking at a campaign event in Waterloo, Iowa, confirmed that he, just like the rest of the field, is committed to advancing the United States government supporting Israel in the rising conflict.

No War for Semiconductors

“No war for oil” is a well-known chant and message on signs at antiwar protests. It challenges a common special interest purpose behind United States military actions abroad.

It is time to start using an updated variation of that chant and those signs.

Cornel West Says End the Wars

Cornel West was well known and liked by many before he made his early June announcement that he is running for president. That has given West’s Green Party presidential campaign a good foundation upon which to build. A poll from late June suggests West may have support of four percent of voters in a hypothetical presidential election choice among West, Republican Donald Trump, and Democrat Joe Biden.
