Ron Paul, interviewed Friday by Stuart Varney at Fox Business, says “trouble has been brewing” around Ukraine since the United States government in 2014 “participated in the coup” in the European nation, resulting in political upheavals including the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych. The coup also set in motion developments leading to secession of Crimea from Ukraine and fighting between the Ukraine government’s forces and people in eastern Ukraine.
Concerning current tensions in the region that could lead to a larger military conflict, Paul cautions that “we should be aware of what NATO’s doing, what the European Union is doing, and what our CIA is doing, and how we’re sponsoring one side over the other without looking at what the people in Crimea and eastern Ukraine are actually wanting themselves.”
People living in some western portions of America with liberalized medical marijuana laws have some extra protection from the United States government prosecuting them for violations of US marijuana laws thanks to a decision issued Tuesday by the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals. However, only congressional action can promptly ensure such protection is provided to people countrywide.

Interviewed Saturday on the Patriot’s Lament radio show on KFAR radio in Fairbanks, Alaska, Ron Paul Institute Senior Fellow Adam Dick zeroed in on the drug war as a major avenue for the expansion of government power at the expense of liberty. Yet, Dick also told hosts Joshua Bennett and Michael Anderson that the movement in recent decades of state and local governments to curtail the drug war shows a path to defeating the leviathan government that the drug war helped create.
Thursday on the Tom Woods Show, host Tom Woods asked libertarian communicator Ron Paul what one book Paul would suggest someone read as an introduction to Paul’s views. Paul responded that he would suggest The Law by Frédéric Bastiat.
Paul says in the interview that The Law’s advantages as a book introducing people to new ideas include that The Law is a rather simple book and that it has a focus on making “one crystal clear point.” Paul explains that the point The Law addresses so well is “the principle on nonaggression,” which holds that “we can’t do harm to anybody else and the government shouldn’t be able to do it either.”

Interviewed last week at the Democratic National Convention, two-time Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich offered a succinct explanation of what the United States government can do to diminish terrorism. “If we want to diminish terrorism in the world, stop funding it,” says Kucinich in the interview with Nicholas Ballasy.
Despite Hillary Clinton obtaining the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination last week, many people, including many Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) delegates who publicly dissented throughout the Democratic National Convention and even walked off the convention floor in protest, dispute the claim that Clinton is a progressive. Reasons people offer for opposing the applicability of the progressive label to Clinton are many — from Clinton’s support for international managed trade deals to her close relationship with big financial institutions to her support for “law and order” policies that trample on individual rights.
Yet, maybe the greatest ire of people who define themselves as progressives or on the left toward Clinton arises in reaction to Clinton’s pro-war beliefs and actions. Former Greece Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis well described the objection earlier this year. Varoufakis, in a short video at Business Insider, concludes that Clinton “ruled herself out of progressive politics” when she backed the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the war that followed, as well as when, as US Secretary of State, she participated in the US government’s war on Libya and even “celebrated” the mutilation and killing of Libyan government leader Muammar Gaddafi.
