As the editor and publisher of the popular libertarian website lewrockwell.com, Lew Rockwell has long been in the forefront of alternative media in America. Interviewed Monday by host Tom Woods at the Tom Woods Show, Rockwell discussed the importance of alternative media efforts to challenge the United States government and its media supporters.
After noting there is much sentiment against President Donald Trump in the mainstream media, Rockwell comments that they are nevertheless boosters of US government power. Rockwell states:
But the media is very much still in league with the regime. It’s in league with the Pentagon. It’s in league with the military-industrial complex. It’s in league with all of the security agencies. It’s in league with the welfare agencies. So the fact that they don’t like Trump doesn’t mean that they are against the American government. So the media is a bugle for the American government always and everywhere.
Commenting about the alternative media such as his website and Woods’ show, Rockwell says, “we’re small, but I think we have some influence.” At the same time, Rockwell cautions that there is an effort, including by Google, YouTube, Amazon, and Twitter, to crack down on alternative media. Still, Rockwell, who is a Ron Paul Institute Advisory Board member and the founder and chairman of the Ludwig von Mises Institute in addition to running lewrockwell.com, expresses optimism, noting that “more and more Americans” do not watch “any of these big establishment media places because they think of them as just being liars.” That creates room for other media critical of US government efforts to gain more influence.
