In a new interview at RT, Ron Paul challenges the recently released United States intelligence report alleging Russian hacking of emails to affect the 2016 US presidential election and says that people pointing to the report as proving the Russian hacking are engaged in “political grandstanding.”

Paul, in the interview, says the allegations of the Russian government hacking emails to influence the 2016 United States presidential election in favor of Donald Trump are “just stirring up trouble for political reasons trying to discredit the president-elect.” Paul continues that, while he was “not a supporter” of President-elect Trump, Paul is “a supporter of trying to sort out the truth from all the nonsense that’s going on.” In this endeavor, Paul says in the interview that he agrees with Julian Assange of WikiLeaks who has declared that the emails were not leaked to WikiLeaks by a foreign government.

Pointing to his experience in the US House of Representatives in the run-up to the Iraq War, Paul declares, “there is every reason for me to be very skeptical of what our intelligence agencies are saying.” As Paul puts it:

They did not tell us the truth. They misled us. And a tragedy occurred from that.
