Three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul spent a good portion of Tuesday — Election Day — discussing the United States presidential election on several media programs. In his media appearances, Paul offered observations that may provide context for interpreting and predicting US government actions over the coming four years with a Donald Trump presidential administration.
On October, 29, 2015, just over one year ago, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) became speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) had announced about a month earlier his resignation from the House after House members had become increasingly vocal in their disapproval of Boehner’s leadership and momentum had built significantly towards Boehner’s ouster from the speaker position.
May Ryan soon face a rebellion much like the one his predecessor faced? This possibility is suggested in Matt Fuller’s Friday Huffington Post article that draws much from an interview with Thomas Massie, a Republican House member from Kentucky who is also an advisory board member of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity.

It is common in presidential campaigns for surrogates to speak at events or take part in media interviews where they vouch for a presidential candidate. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has many such surrogates, including her former presidential primary opponent Bernie Sanders, her husband and former United States President Bill Clinton, and First Lady Michelle Obama. Hillary Clinton’s campaign, as is typical of presidential campaigns, also uses Clinton’s vice presidential running mate Tim Kaine as a surrogate. What is unusual is that Bill Weld, the vice presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party, has also joined the ranks of Clinton surrogates.
Things are looking dicey again for Hillary Clinton, with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James B. Comey having informed members of the United States Congress on Friday that the FBI is reopening its investigation of the former Secretary of State for mishandling classified information. This decision, Comey explained via a letter, is due to the discovery of new emails “that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.” Yet, no matter what the FBI may uncover, Fox News Senior Judicial Analyst and former New Jersey state Judge Andrew Napolitano said in a Fox Business interview with host Stuart Varney on Monday that Clinton may be able to avoid prosecution.

Lew Rockwell commented this week, as a guest at RT, on the effort by President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and others to stir in Americans a fear of Russia. Likening the effort to an effort made during the cold war to stir in Americans a fear of the Soviet Union, Rockwell, who is the chairman of the Ludwig von Mises Institute and publisher of lewrockwell.com, urges individuals to look instead to the advice of President George Washington.
My new interview on the Lions of Liberty Podcast with host Marc Clair posted today. In the interview, Clair and I discuss a number of matters including the 2016 presidential race, the drug war, foreign intervention, and the prohibiting of people listed on the United States government’s so-called terror watch list from buying guns. Clair and I also talk about some of the reasons for optimism about respect for liberty in America that I focus on in my new book A Tipping Point for Liberty: Exposing and Defeating Leviathan Government.
